It has been claimed that Chalobah has been told he can leave Chelsea this summer, as Mauricio Pochettino begins to overhaul his new squad. He has an over-inflated team, with plenty of big names leaving the club.

Academy graduates Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have been moved on, and now the same could happen to Chalobah.

Chalobah has the potential to do just that, and a move to Tyneside would see him lined up to take Fabian Schar’s place in the starting XI in the future. He could also provide cover at right-back, with his versatility likely to appeal to Howe.

Team spirit is important at Newcastle, with players digging in to help the club rather than satisfy their own ego. In that respect, Chalobah could be a great fit. Frank Lampard previously called him ‘selfless‘, praising him for his attitude when asked to operate in different roles.

He could be an astute arrival at St James’ Park, so it will be interesting to see if the Magpies make an official move.
