Double Deal: Rangers held Double trade deal with Brighton & Hove Albion £55m & £115m Star For Replacement……

There is confusion surrounding apparent Rangers interest in Brighton & Hove Albion Head of Recruitment Sam Jewell as the club hunts for a new Director of Football.

Last week reports started emerging that Rangers were interested in making Sam Jewell the club’s new Director of Football following the appointment of Philippe Clement as manager.

First appearing in the Scottish Sun – in a story written by journalist Alan Nixon – the story goes that Rangers are looking at the talented Premier League staffer to finally replace Nottingham Forest-bound Ross Wilson.

It comes after Sam Jewell was made Brighton’s Head of Recruitment in February, six years on from when he first joined the club as a recruitment manager for the Seagull’s U21s.

Brighton’s transfer business has been heavily praised in recent seasons, with Sam Jewell heavily involved in the signings of Alexis Mac Allister (who joined Liverpool for £55m in the summer) and Moises Caicedo (who moved to Chelsea for £115m) in the two stand-out examples of their strong work in the transfer window.

Conflicting reports surround apparent Rangers Sam Jewell interest

Naturally, the links had Rangers fans very excited at the prospect of Sam Jewell joining the club and this was intensified by a tweet later in the week from Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer journalist has a reputation to uphold and claimed in a tweet that Rangers were set to offer Sam Jewell the Director of Football role.

However local newspaper the Argus quickly jumped on the story and claimed that despite any potential interest a well-placed source insisted that Jewell was “not going anywhere”.

The Daily Record and Andy Newport then ran a story insisting that Rangers had not actually offered Sam Jewell the Director of Football opportunity, describing the reports as “false”.

Now Alan Nixon – the journalist who first linked Rangers with Sam Jewell – is claiming that the Brighton recruitment guru is set to stay with the Premier League side.

It’s a little confusing but it appears that even if the talented Brighton staffer was the subject of Rangers interest, the club are insisting nothing ever quite got to the offer stage.

By the sounds of things, Sam Jewell is very committed to Brighton and any initial enquiry would’ve made such an offer ludicrous.

The hunt for Rangers’ new director of football continues with club CEO James Bisgrove confirming an appointment is “imminent” following a period of uncertainty.
