Steve Cook departed Nottingham Forest last night to sign for QPR and Neco Williams has sent him a heartfelt message on Twitter.
The defender has now joined QPR on a two-year contract with the option of a third and he reunites with Jack Colback who has also moved to West London.
It wasn’t a great start for QPR. They conceded after just 50 seconds against Watford and then went down 4-0 at Vicarage Road.
That result led to Gareth Ainsworth increasing his efforts to sign a defender. Now, he’s plucked Cook from Forest and he will be available to play against Cardiff on Saturday.
Cook should leave Forest with his head held high. He was integral during the second half of 2021/22 as the Reds won promotion to the Premier League.
He made 20 appearances in all competitions during the second half of that campaign. Forest were beaten just twice during those games that Cook played in.
Last season, saw him play frequently during the first half of 2022/23. He made 14 appearances for the club but was omitted from the 25-man squad after Christmas.
Cook didn’t sulk though and was a popular member of the dressing room. Now, his leadership qualities could prove very useful at QPR.
Forest defender Williams sends message to Cook on Twitter
Clearly, departed star Cook was very popular at Forest. He now leaves with the best wishes from his Reds teammates and the fans.
Cook took to Twitter last night. Williams kept things short and sweet but posted a classy response that read: “All the best, Cookie.
The post also had an emoji of a love heart and one of a cookie included, with Williams wishing him well ahead of his next chapter.
This departure is wise from a Forest perspective. It gets another player away from the wage bill and frees up more funds for possible new signings.
Cook leaves as a cult hero, however. Forest fans will forever be indebted to his contributions during the promotion-winning campaign.
