Fabrizio Romano confirms Liverpool in ‘direct contact’ for third summer signing, as Klopp learns perfect bid to ‘make it happen’

Fabrizio Romano has revealed Liverpool are in concrete talks with another English club as they look to bring in a third new midfielder, with manager Jurgen Klopp also discovering the bid needed to make the transfer a reality.

Liverpool have already signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai from Brighton and RB Leipzig respectively to help replace the three midfielders who were allowed to leave on free transfers at the start of the summer – Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner. However, they will need one or two more players to arrive in the position if Fabinho and Jordan Henderson depart.

Fabinho has agreed personal terms ahead of a move to Al Ittihad, which would see him play alongside 2022 Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema. The move has recently stalled, although David Ornstein states that all three parties involved remain committed to finalising a deal

Jordan Henderson, meanwhile, is closing in on a transfer to Al Ettifaq, who are now managed by Steven Gerrard. Liverpool will receive £12million plus add-ons for their skipper.

Liverpool have looked into the possibility of signing several defensive midfielders this summer, including Joao Palhinha, Romeo Lavia, Manu Kone, Cheick Doucoure and Khephren Thuram.

Recently, Liverpool have begun pushing hard to sign Lavia from Southampton. Earlier on Tuesday, Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg explained how the 19-year-old ‘wants to join Liverpool’ and has given Klopp’s side the green light to sign him

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri weighed in on the transfer rumours by claiming Lavia has already ‘agreed on personal terms’ with the Reds.

Writing on Twitter, Romano has provided his take on the situation. He confirms that Liverpool are in ‘direct contact’ with Southampton as they look to take Lavia to Anfield.

Liverpool ‘keep working’ to sign Romeo Lavia

Southampton are insisting that they will only sell their star for £50m. Liverpool will ‘keep working’ to strike an agreement and ‘make it happen’ with the south coast outfit.

In a previous tweet, Romano states that Liverpool have been in talks with Lavia and his agent for a month, to try and convince him on the move.

Fellow journalist Ornstein has also given an update on Liverpool’s pursuit. On Twitter, he writes that Liverpool have submitted an opening offer worth £37m for the Belgian. But this has been knocked back, with Ornstein going on to reiterate Romano’s claim about Southampton holding out for £50m.

Liverpool fans will be excited about their club potentially landing Lavia. Despite his tender age, he put in some solid top-flight performances last season.
