Man Utd and Nottingham Forest face their ‘last remaining stumbling block’ over a potential deal for Dean Henderson, according to reports.
The England international had a successful loan spell at the City Ground last season, although an injury ruled him out for the second half of the campaign.
Man Utd are looking to offload Henderson for around £30m this summer but are now prepared to accept a loan deal with an obligation-to-buy clause.
Forest want him back in Nottingham this summer with Henderson burning his bridges at Old Trafford last summer when he hit out at the Red Devils for their “criminal” treatment of him over perceived broken promises.
And now the only thing that stands in the way of the Man Utd goalkeeper returning to Forest is a disagreement between the two clubs over the trigger for the obligation-to-buy clause.
The Athletic reveal:
‘Forest’s efforts to sign two goalkeepers continue, with Dean Henderson remaining their primary target. The last remaining stumbling block in securing a deal to sign him from Manchester United is reaching an agreement with their Premier League rivals over the precise terms of what would initially be a loan move.
‘Both clubs want an obligation-to-buy clause to be included in the deal, but United want that to happen after he has made a single-figure number of appearances, while Forest would prefer that number to be closer to 30.
‘Henderson made a positive impact during his loan spell last season, when the 26-year-old former England player made 18 Premier League starts. But he also missed the second half of the campaign with a thigh injury, which he is still recovering from. He is unlikely to be fit to face Arsenal on the opening day.’
‘Forest have also made an unsuccessful bid to sign goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic from New England Revolution, with the MLS side turning down offers of $8m (£6.3m) from both Forest and Nantes. Contact has also been made with Arsenal over former Revolution player Matt Turner.
‘Arsenal are pushing to sign Brentford’s Spain international David Raya, which could have an influence on whether anything progresses.
‘Forest do have Wales international Wayne Hennessey, 36, on their books and the club are comfortable retaining him as backup, but would like to sign two further keepers to push for a starting place.’
