RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – NHRA Champion John Force is continuing his recovery after being released from the hospital on Tuesday.
After being released from VCU Medical Center, Force was med-flighted to a neurological rehab center to continue treatment for his traumatic brain injury.
The 16-time title holder was injured following a crash during the first round of funny car eliminations at the PLAYNHRA Virginia Nationals last month.
The John Force Racing Team said his engine exploded, sending his Funny Car into a concrete wall at more than 300 miles per hour.
On July 5, the John Force racing team said that Force,75, suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI), a fractured sternum and a right wrist injury in the incident.
The grandfather of five has also regained his equilibrium and started walking with the medical staff’s help.
Medical staff do mention that the road ahead is still tricky as Force continues to deal with cognitive and behavioral symptoms from the TBI.
“Family members said that no timetable had been established for the length of Force’s stay at the new facility,” the team said. “Which was selected because of its success in treating other race car drivers with similar issues.
