SAD NEWS: Former Mets pitcher Pat Zachry has died at the age of 71 after a lengthy illness.

Zachry was a member of the team that returned from Cincinnati after the Mets notoriously dealt Tom Seaver to the Reds in 1977. Zachry pitched for the Mets in both 1977 and 1982.

Doug Flynn, another Met acquired from Cincinnati in the Seaver trade, said Mets vice president of media relations Jay Horwitz, “You couldn’t find a better teammate than Zach.” “We will all miss him dearly.”

Zachry pitched for the Mets for six seasons with an ERA of 3.63.

In 1978, he was an All-Star.

Zachry won Rookie of the Year with the Reds in 1976 before to signing with the Mets.

He played in big league baseball for ten seasons, spending time with the Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers.
