An opening bid is coming for a Brazilian midfielder who is ‘sold’ on joining Liverpool, and the Reds have a ‘good chance’ of completing a deal if one thing happens over the next seven days, per reports.
Midfield moves were always going to dominate the headlines at Anfield this summer and that’s exactly how it’s transpired.
The exits of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson weren’t anticipated when the window opened. However, once healthy offers from Saudi Arabia came in, Liverpool couldn’t refuse the chance to cash in on two ageing stars.
As such, one and potentially two further arrivals are expected despite already signing Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Holding midfield is where the moves will be made. Indeed, the Reds currently do not possess an established defensive midfielder on their books. Stefan Bajcetic did play as a No 6 at times last season, though is only 18 years of age and has less than 20 senior appearances to his name.
As such, Liverpool have ramped up their pursuit of Southampton ace, Romeo Lavia.
Personal terms are already in place, though as yet the Reds haven’t bid what the Saints are demanding.
£50m is Southampton’s asking price and Liverpool’s second bid worth £43m was rejected on Tuesday.
But while Liverpool may well thunder in with a third offer, Jurgen Klopp’s side are also preparing to move for Brazil international Andre.
