Ryan Jack could be finished at Rangers after a development has emerged on who will be the next manager at Ibrox.
Nieuwsblad Sport reported on Tuesday (10 October) that the Gers have made a concrete proposal to appoint Philippe Clement as Michael Beale’s successor.
The Belgium news outlet said the former Monaco coach is now in “pole position” to become the new Light Blues boss, potentially having an impact on Jack’s playing time.
The Scottish international missed the game against St Mirren on Sunday (8 October) through injury and has been forced to pull out of the national team squad to face Spain.
The news will come as a concern for Rangers after the 31-year-old has missed a number of games since signing for the club from Aberdeen in 2017.
The midfielder has been plagued by calf problems in recent times, having been absent for large chunks of the past couple of seasons.
The new manager is likely to look at Jack’s age and his recent issues and be forced to make a decision on whether he can really rely on him moving forward.
If that does turn out to be Clement, as the report suggests he’s been offered a deal with the Gers, then that could be a further blow to the midfielder’s hopes of earning a regular place in the side.
The Belgian boss could favour Nico Raskin over Jack in the middle of the park, with his compatriot potentially offering more stability over a longer period of time.
Although the 22-year-old missed a couple of games through injury himself recently, he has been largely consistent since making the move from Standard Liege to Glasgow in January.
The midfielder returned to the side against St Mirren on Sunday and looked bright, laying on an assist for the Gers’ second goal in the 3-0 win.
He offers something different to Jack, as he can play in a deeper role or look to get forward and more involved in the attacks.
If Clement does take over the Gers, then the Scot could have a difficult challenge ahead of him as he looks to move ahead of Raskin in the pecking order.
It just feels like Jack’s injury history and the fact he isn’t getting any younger really could go against him, meaning his days at Ibrox could be numbered.
