Ilkay Gundogan is to leave Manchester City and become a new Barcelona player – and it has now been revealed that Robert Lewandowski played a key role in the move.
The midfielder will sign for the Spanish giants as a free agent.
City are thought to have offered the player a one-year deal, plus the other for another year
Gundogan was open to staying at City.
But over the past couple of weeks it has seemed as though his head turned towards Barca.
And now, it has been claimed that Lewandowski actually helped to convince Gundogan to make the move.
and convinced him to make move to Barcelona
According to Polish outfit Meczyki, Barca striker Lewandowski is partly responsible for this move happening.
Last Friday, Poland and Germany played each other in a friendly match in Warsaw.
Poland ran out 1-0 winners, and after the game, Lewandowski turned agent.
He is said to have had a discussion with Gundogan, and persuaded him to make a move to the Camp Nou.
£150,000-a-week ace Lewandowski, of course, knows Gundogan well with the pair having been teammates at Borussia Dortmund.
Whatever he said to the 32-year-old must have been significant, because we are now just waiting for official confirmation of Gundogan’s move.
Lewandowski intervention might just have cost Man City a renewal of Gundogan’s contract
This is a very interesting claim, and one that is very believable.
The pair have remained good friends over the years. Gundogan said that he wanted to see Lewandowski win the Ballon d’Or in 2021, saying: “I played with him in Dortmund so I kind of know directly how great a player he is, how dedicated he is, also, to his work.
They will now be reunited at Barca, and City will be hoping that Mateo Kovacic will be a solid replacement for the German.
The Croatian is set to join City for £30 million and like Gundogan and Barca, the move is just pending official confirmation.
