The trajectory of D’Angelo Russell’s career has been intriguing. Russell was once selected by the Lakers as the team’s face of the future and was thought to be the kind of player who, in the best case scenario, would win a championship for the team at some point in his career.
Many things have changed for both Russell and the Lakers in the years since his No. 2 overall selection. Although the In-Season Tournament (IST) final on Saturday is not nearly as exciting as winning an NBA championship, Russell could have given the Lakers actual hardware if they had prevailed.
Russell provided an insightful and candid response when asked what it would mean to help the Lakers win the NBA Cup after Thursday’s victory over the Pelicans.
