In pursuit of a $45 million trade target, a new team joins the Knicks and the Los Angeles Lakers:

According to Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer, the Houston Rockets are the newest team to enter the Malcolm Brogdon sweepstakes, displacing the New York Knicks and the Los Angeles Lakers.

According to league personnel, Brogdon is also reportedly being courted by Houston, a team that employs a large number of former Boston employees who worked with him during his Celtics season, in addition to the Knicks and Lakers. Fischer published this information on January 26.

With a $22.5 million guaranteed sum, the $45 million guard is bound to the deal through the following season. After winning Sixth Man of the Year the previous year, Brogdon came to Portland in the off-season through the blockbuster trade involving Damian Lillard and Rudy Holiday.

Despite playing for a rebuilding team, the 32-year-old veteran guard is averaging better stats than he did the previous season in 33 games, including 19 starts for the Trail Blazers. He is scoring 15.5 points, dishing out 5.3 assists, and making an astounding 42% of his 5.1 3-pointers. However, Portland acquired him with the intention of trading him for another draft pick as they continue to rebuild around Scoot Henderson, Anfernee Simons, and Shaedon Sharpe.

HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported on January 18 that “Rival executives who spoke with HoopsHype believe a fair asking price for Brogdon is a first-round pick and salary filler.”

The Lakers can use their first-round selection in 2029. However, they are holding onto it in case they need to trade Dejounte Murray.

However, the Rockets, like the Knicks, have an abundance of draft capital from Brooklyn thanks to both their own and the James Harden trade.

One of the Knicks’ trade options to take Immanuel Quickley’s spot in their starting lineup is Brogdon. According to numerous reports, they are also considering Toronto’s Bruce Brown and Utah’s Jordan Clarkson.
