NEWS: J.D. Martinez, a free agent with the Dodgers, reportedly “approves” the potential of playing for the New York Mets.

Despite having an All-Star level season with the Dodgers in 2023, free-agent slugger J.D. Martinez remains unsigned. It’s been one of the strange occurrences to develop this offseason, especially with the regular season quickly approaching.

If Martinez were to sign with the Mets, it would be a good addition for them. Putting his bat into their lineup could cause issues for opponents to scheme against, including the Dodgers.

He would become their full-time designated hitter in all likelihood, giving them a massive upgrade at the position. New York had a carousel of players in the designated hitter spot last season, but all were fairly inconsistent.

New York would be much more of a threat to Los Angeles if Martinez does land there, but he deserves to go to a contending club. It seems that his free agency may be coming to an end sooner rather than later, but everything remains fluid.
