Journalist shares double transfer update on Leeds’ pursuit of £33.6m duo

Leeds United’s hopes of signing Nadiem Amiri and Joseph Paintsil are ‘not dead’.

That is according to Phil Hay, who provided an update on Leeds’ pursuit of both players in the Athletic today, stating that as of last night, they were still hopeful of getting both done.

Reports from Sky in Germany indicated yesterday that Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Amiri had once again changed his mind and turned down a move to Leeds.

Amiri had initially rejected Leeds on Thursday morning before then agreeing to the move a few hours later, though there is again uncertainty as to whether he will come.As per Hay, Leeds have had a £5 million bid accepted by Leverkusen for the 26year-old and it is likely the saga will come to an end after both sides’ matches today.

Meanwhile, Leeds remain in talks with Genk over a deal for Paintsil having seen their first offer of £8.6 million rejected yesterday.

According to Sacha Tavolieri, Genk have sent a counter proposal back to Leeds, stating they are happy with the, but want to ensure the full amount is guaranteed.

Leeds’ opening offer was instead around £6.8 million paid up front, with the remainder in add-ons, and as such, the two sides remain in discussions.

Both players would represent significant additions to Daniel Farke’s squad with Amiri the number 10 he is crying out for, and Paintsil another top-class forward option.

There are now just six days remaining in the window and so Leeds will have to act quickly to get them done.
