On loan Leeds United midfielder Marc Roca has said that he is entirely focused on the present, when asked if he would be interested in making his Real Betis loan permanent by Marca.
The Spanish midfielder was unveiled to the Betis fans on Tuesday, 25 July and has settled in well with the rest of the Betis dressing room but was not drawn into answering questions about his future beyond the upcoming campaign.
Instead, speaking in his native Spanish, Roca explained that he likes to live in the present and therefore is leaving discussions about a potential permanent transfer between the two clubs and his agent.
Like so many of Leeds’ first team squad, the 26-year-old had a clause in his contract that allowed him to depart the now Championship side after relegation, but at the moment the expectation is that he will return to Yorkshire next summer.
“In the end, I like to live in the present,” he said.
“Right now the club is talking with my agents to see how we can agree all the details with Leeds. I don’t take it, I focus on training and I leave it to them. This year I’m going to give my best and I feel prepared and with a lot of commitment”.
Next summer already in focus
The strange thing about all the business being completed in terms of departures at Elland Road this summer is the fact for most players will be in the same situation in just 12 months’ time, such has been the number of loan departures.
For now, it is clever business by the Whites, they have managed to get a large number of their highest earners off of the wage bill, while still having them at their disposal if they return to the Premier League this season.
But that is still a huge if, the squad at Elland Road is looking lighter by the day as more and more players decide to take their futures elsewhere and those in charge could be in danger of leaving Farke with too weak a squad to win promotion.
The incoming business has been very smart, although limited, with only Ethan Ampadu confirmed and Karl Darlow close to signing, but more needs to happen to cover the outgoings so far.
If Roca succeeds while on loan it will be a win-win for Leeds however, either they get a midfielder back amongst their ranks full of confidence, or any potential transfer fee will be increased due to his better form.
In other Leeds United news, Darlow is set to jet to Elland Road to complete his transfer in the next two days
