Transfer speculation, as far as the Hatters goes, continues to keep me occupied as the season draws nearer by the day.
Yesterday afternoon, as I was enjoying the first spell of sunshine for a couple of days, news broke via several media sources, including – Football League World – that Luton Town were among the front runners to sign the promising young Arsenal striker, Charlie Patino.
Patino, currently on the books of Arsenal, is set to leave the North London club in the hopes of securing regular first-team football.
Last season, Arsenal sent the youngster on a season-long loan spell with Blackpool, whilst at Bloomfield Road, he made 37 league appearances and scored 3 times, as Blackpool were relegated.
As far as playing for his parent club, Arsenal, Patino has yet to make his league debut.
If Patino were to sign for Luton Town, it would be a remarkable return with the youngster having been on our books during the period 2011 to 2015, joining us when he was 8 and leaving when he was 12.
However, Luton Town have rivals for his signature with Cardiff City also reported, by our source, to be interested.
Can I see Patino coming to Kenilworth Road, on a permanent basis, probably not.
His scoring record, last season, was far from impressive and if the Hatters are in the market for a striker, I’d hope that it would be somebody who knows where the back of the net is.
People may say Patino has youth on his side, but our recent record in bringing those with youth on their side on, doesn’t bode well!
