JUST IN: Forgotten Nottingham Forest superstar set for surprise transfer after rival bid

Latest Nottingham Forest transfer news as right-back Richie Laryea looks set to join MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps on loan, despite a bid from Toronto FC

Nottingham Forest defender Richie Laryea is “set to join” Vancouver Whitecaps on loan until the end of 2023, with a view to a permanent transfer in the new year.

That’s according to The Athletic, who say the Whitecaps will “work to buy” Laryea in the winter, making him “one of the faces of” the Canada-based franchise. But for now, the Canada international will join on a temporary basis.

The deal is being done in time for the MLS transfer deadline, with their window set to close overnight tonight. Laryea is said to have made the choice to join Vancouver amid interest from other MLS teams.
Lareya has been back at Forest after his loan at Toronto expired, with his former club not holding an option to make his stay in Toronto permanent. During his time at Forest, he made just five appearances for the Reds. after his loan at Toronto expired, with his former club not holding an option to make his stay in Toronto permanent. At Toronto in 2023, he scored twice and assisted three times in 18 appearances. The year before that, he set up three goals in 10 appearances from the back line.

The news comes as a surprise after a report last week revealed that Forest had received a bid from Toronto for the right-back. It was said that the next step was down to the Reds, and it appears the club turned down that offer in favour of loaning him to Vancouver.
