According to Phil Hay, Leeds United secured Joe Rodon on loan from Tottenham during the summer transfer season, although Spurs initially demanded more than £10 million for his services until a compromise was reached.
The Athletic journalist revealed on their website on 15 September that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and Leeds CEO Angus Kinnear have a solid executive connection, which aided in the agreement on a loan deal.
Spurs’ initial demands of an eight-figure transfer fee were appeased by the loan deal, as any further improvement to Rodon’s game through first-team experience will prove beneficial to them if they want to sell him in the future.
Leeds is benefited by excellent ties.
Strong working ties with other teams in football can often prove useful in the transfer market, especially when such partnerships are with some of the country’s bigger teams, as Leeds has discovered.
Rodon arrived at Elland Road alongside Tottenham teammate Djed Spence, for whom Leeds also got a fantastic deal, with the £1 million loan price paid considered as a huge coup by top Elland Road executives.
Negotiating Spurs down from a £10 million minimum transfer fee to a direct loan deal is a fantastic bit of business by the Yorkshire club, as it improves a position that had been proving difficult.
