JUST IN: Leicester City Premier League winner Danny Simpson says, he was close to signing for Celtic……..

Danny Simpson hasn’t had the easiest of times since winning the Premier League with Leicester City.

The right-back has struggled to find a new club since leaving Bristol City last summer, while he also had two other spells as a free agent after leaving the Foxes.

It’s never easy to be a free agent, and it’s even harder when you think there’s a deal to be done only for it to fall through.

Speaking on Filthy Fellas, Simpson has been discussing his numerous searches for a new club over the years, and he shared a story of how he almost signed for Celtic after leaving Leicester.

Simpson almost signed for Celtic

The right-back spoke about almost joining the Scottish giants.

“It’s mad, that’s how it works sometimes. I fell out with my agent because something happened with Celtic. That was the one why I turned the other one down. Celtic was on the cards, it was on the table, I spoke to Neil Lennon and everything, it was European football, more trophies, I spoke to Kolo Toure and Brendan about it, that fell through at the end when it was all done, that fell through,” Simpson said.

Worth the risk

It sounds as though Simpson left some other offers on the table in order to pursue a move to Celtic Park, and, to be honest, we can’t blame him.

A move to Celtic would appeal to any footballer in that situation. It’s a shot at playing in front of a huge crowd, in some huge games in the biggest competitions. It was even reported at the time that he was offered a trial with the Bhoys.

Sadly for Simpson, this move never came off and he’s been in something of a footballing limbo for a few years now, and, by the sounds of it, he still regrets not being able to get that move to Glasgow.
