The Ibrox club has hired Zurab Almirian as Head of Academy Football.
He works under academy director Zeb Jacobs after coming from OH Leuven in Belgium, where he was the Head of Technical Development.
“We are thrilled to welcome Zurab to the Rangers,” stated Jacobs. His nomination to the position of Head of Academy Football is the outcome of a protracted hiring procedure during which we looked for a candidate who would align with the Academy’s values and mission to establish the most stimulating learning environment in sports.
“Zurab, who gained extensive experience as Head of Technical Development at OH Leuven, will not only bring a wealth of knowledge and appreciation regarding player development, but he will also bring constant innovation and energy to the role.”
Additionally, having worked with Double Pass across all age groups in Belgium, Zurab’s vast worldwide experience and understanding of age specificity will help develop and maximize the potential of our gifted Academy players.
“We look forward to Zurab starting in the new year and inspiring our excellent staff and young players.”
In the meantime, Cyriel Dessers, a top player for Rangers, says he hopes to return to action for Nigeria in January’s African Cup of Nations.
But if he gets his wish, he might miss a lot of games for the Ibrox team.
Despite having four caps for the Super Eagles, Dessers was placed on the standby list and was not included in the last two squads selected by manager Jose Peseiro.
Since joining Rangers in the summer from Italian team Cremonese, the former Feyenoord star has scored five goals.
