Rangers and Celtic are in the hunt to sign “powerful” Hammarby defender Nathaniel Adjei, according to Alan Nixon.
The Sun journalist reported on his Patreon on Sunday (5 November) that “top insiders” have revealed that Preston North End are “making the biggest push” to sign the 21-year-old.
He added that the English Championship club is in talks to sign the Ghanaian center-back on loan in January with a view to a permanent deal further down the line, but that they are not willing to pay the £3 million the Swedish outfit is hoping to receive.
It looks as though Preston are currently leading the race to sign Adjei ahead of Celtic and Rangers despite their unwillingness to meet his asking price.
£3million seems quite a lot for a player who has only played 30 games in the Swedish top flight since signing for Hammarby two years ago.
After only breaking into the first team towards the end of last season, the Ghanaian potentially caught the eye of clubs when he played in the Europa League qualifiers over the summer against FC Twente.
It seems incredibly unlikely that the Gers will look to splash the cash on a largely unproven player on the back of some of the poor transfer business that was conducted over the summer.
Philippe Clement may have to work under a reasonably tight budget to begin with and he’ll be looking to use whatever money comes his way extremely wisely.
