Nashville SC have confirmed the signing of forward Sam Surridge from Premier League side Nottingham Forest.

Surridge joins the Eastern Conference team as a Designated Player alongside Hany Mukhtar and Walker Zimmerman. Nashville have long searched for a striker, and it seems like they’ve found one in Surridge.

Nashville paid roughly $6.5m for their new No. 9, and he joins on a contract through the 2026 MLS season with an option for a further year

The 24-year-old scored 11 goals in 50 appearances for Nottingham Forest and also made stops at Stoke City, Bournemouth, and Swansea City.

“Sam is an athletic striker who is clinical around the goal,” Nashville general manager Mike Jacobs said. “He fits our club DNA and has proven his ability to influence winning with his integral role in Nottingham Forest gaining promotion to the Premier League in 2022. We are excited about this next chapter of his career here in Nashville.”

Jones added: “Someone with the profile of Sam, the role he plays, the expected impact he can have in our group, really, it’s an exciting opportunity for our whole club to think about what this means going forward.

Surridge himself expressed that he was eager to get started with his new teammates and work under head coach Gary Smith.

“All the lads, you can see they all work hard for him, all work hard for the club, they all buy into that and I think he knows I’m going to fit the mold of that,” Surridge said when asked about Smith. “He knows I’m going to complement the team well. Yeah, he just sold it like he really wants me and I think that was part of it, coming here – he really wanted me, the club wanted me.

“He said you can get loads of chances, and I’ve just got to finish them off now.

“Hopefully I go on to break records here and it’s all going to be happy. There’s going to be bumps along the way and I know that, I’m not naive. But I’m excited for the challenge.”
