JUST NOW: A valuable 35-cap international signs a new deal with Rangers ahead of the January transfer window.

Rangers  strike a new deal with out-of-contract Croatia left-back Borna Barisic amid links to AS Roma and Watford this week.

It comes with the 35-times capped Croatia left-back being free to negotiate a deal elsewhere in the coming months with his contract up at the end of the current season.

Signed by Steven Gerrard, Croatia star Borna Barisic has been at Rangers since 2018 and according to the report Philippe Clement views his experience as a “valuable” asset to the squad.

The report also claims that should Borna Barisic leave Rangers at the end of his contract it would be recognised as “disappointing business” from the club.

This comes with Rangers letting leading assets such as Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos and Filip Helander all leave for nothing in the summer after expensive investments into their services.

Rangers in talks over new Borna Barisic contract

Rangers fans will have noted the reported Borna Barisic interest from Serie A AS Roma and Championship Watford in Calcio Mercato this week, both clubs having been named as historic suitors for the player.

Regarding Borna Barisic, who occasionally has shown he is capable of delivering a world-class pass with his magic left foot, Rangers supporters undoubtedly have conflicting emotions.

Even Antonio Colak, a former teammate on the Rangers, gave him tremendous accolades recently for it.

Though Borna Barisic’s technical ability has never been questioned, if not consistently, the mental part of his play has Rangers supporters doubting him at Ibrox.
