JUST NOW: Al Ahli submitted a bid for Liverpool superstar midfilder for the window transfer…….

ccording to the French outlet L’ Equipe (h/t GFFN), Saudi Arabian giants Al Ahli have made a bid for the services of Liverpool superstar Thiago Alcantara in the summer transfer window.

The Spanish ace is the senior-most midfielder at Anfield following the summer departures of James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho. While injuries have limited his impact on Merseyside, there is little doubt that the 32-year-old remains a difference-maker when available.

Two of them, Henderson and Fabinho have joined the Saudi Arabian League which is gaining traction among European players of late. Thiago could soon join then should Al Ahli’s bid of €12m be accepted.

The Spaniard is currently in the final year of his contract at Liverpool and it is not yet clear if he will be offered an extension. The Reds aren’t a side renowned for retaining overaged stars and could choose to replace Thiago with a younger player next summer

Selling him now will see them recoup some transfer fee but it will come at the cost of losing his services. A midfield revamp is taking place at Anfield with Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai both arriving earlier this summer.

The Reds are heavily linked with Southampton’s a Romeo Lavia and are also actively trying to hijack Chelsea’s interest in Brighton star Moises Caicedo. Should the duo arrive on Merseyside, it is imperative that a player of Thiago’s experience educates them on how to gel as a team and also show them what it means to wear a Liverpool jersey.

A technician who makes football look easy, Thiago still has much to offer despite his age. He has already rejected several advances from the middle east and it will come as a surprise if Liverpool choose to sell him in the coming weeks.

Thiago is a serial winner who knows what it takes to win the biggest trophies in club football. Having him around, even if it is for one more season, will help translate that knowledge to what is increasingly looking like Jurgen Klopp’s next great Liverpool side.
