Alexis Mac Allister has posted on his Instagram story ‘Thank You’ after his red card during Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth at Anfield was overturned.
The 24-year-old was making his home debut at the weekend, and even though Liverpool went 1-0 down during the early stages of the game, Jurgen Klopp’s side did fight back to take the lead by the time the players could head for their half-time break.
But, in the second half, after going in for a challenge with Ryan Christie, the on-field referee must have deemed a standard yellow card challenge from Alexis Mac Allister as reckless, dangerous and too high, as he was shown a straight red.
Even though VAR had a look at the incident, the call still stood, but upon appeal by Liverpool, that has now been overturned and he will play against Newcastle United on Sunday, as posted by the Premier League’s official website.
What’s worse about this is that VAR, even after watching various replays, still stood by the on-field call, even though it was wrong.
Yet, upon appeal, it gets overturned, which proves that the technology or VAR isn’t the issue here, but those people making the decisions, as Liverpool posted the following message on Instagram to winning the appeal and Mac Allister responding via his Instagram story by simply posting: ‘Thank You’.
“Alexis Mac Allister will not serve a suspension after a successful appeal against the red card he received during Saturday’s victory over AFC Bournemouth,” Liverpool wrote.
A positive start by Mac Allister
Aside from the above incident, this has been a positive start to life at Liverpool for Mac Allister, who will face his toughest challenge yet at the weekend.
The Reds make the trip to St James’ Park to face a Newcastle side that is in the Champions League and deservedly finished above them last season.
This is Mac Allister’s chance to really announce himself to his new club because a victory here would send out an early statement of intent from the team.
