Everton are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Leeds United gem Archie Gray, whom the Whites value at £40–50 million, according to the Daily Mail.
On November 10, the newspaper announced on its website that Everton had joined Liverpool and Crystal Palace in their pursuit of the 17-year-old, who has established himself as a mainstay in Leeds’ first team this year.
The article further stated that even though the Yorkshire club is hesitant to let go of its top academy product, Gray’s contract expires in 2025; therefore, Premier League interest may force them to make a move.
It was also claimed in the report that, although the Yorkshire club is reluctant to let their star academy product leave, Premier League interest could force their hand as Gray’s contract expires in 2025.
This season, there have been hints that Everton wants to bring in younger players who can develop and succeed at the club instead of spending a lot of money on quick fixes, a departure from their previous recruitment approach.
At just 17 years old, Gray would most likely fit into the latter group and have lots of time to develop and grow into a Premier League player.
The level of interest the clubs have in his signature is a testament to his ability and the promise he has shown already in his short professional career after he made his debut for Daniel Farke’s side earlier this season and quickly made himself a starter.
It has to be said that Everton are unlikely to find £50 million lying around to throw at a 17-year-old given their current financial situation, and even then it would be a difficult task to compete with Liverpool for his signature, but the interest remains strong.
