Jake Browning, the quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals, exacted some sweet revenge on his former team on Saturday.
At Cincinnati, Ohio’s Paycor Stadium, the Bengals overcame a 17-3 second-half deficit to defeat the Minnesota Vikings 27-24 in overtime.
With just over five minutes remaining in overtime, Browning hit wide receiver Tyler Boyd with a nasty 44-yard pass that set up kicker Evan McPherson’s game-winning field goal. When Browning tossed the pigskin through the smallest of openings to find Boyd, the Bengals were facing a third-and-nine from close to midfield.
Browning, who was cut by the Vikings in 2021, couldn’t resist slandering the team after McPherson’s kick went through the uprights.
Browning remarked, “You never should have cut me,” to a camera positioned on the sidelines.
In his press conference after the game, Browning acknowledged that he was particularly driven to defeat Minnesota. The 27-year-old quarterback related how, two seasons ago, the Vikings cut him in the “sh—iest” way imaginable.
Browning claims that after misleading him into believing he would be added to the Vikings practice squad, they cut him hours later.
Browning did mention that since he was last with the team, there has been a significant turnover in the coaching staff and roster. However, it never hurts to look for more motivation to give your all on the field.
Finished 29/42 for 324 yards, with one interception and two touchdowns. This season, Browning is now 2-0 in overtime matches. In both games, he has thrown for over 300 yards.
