France beat the Republic of Ireland 2-0 in the European Championship qualifying on Thursday.

Tchouameni opened the scoring for France in the 19th minute.

The 23-year-old started the match in a two-man defensive midfield system.

And the £119,000-a-week (SalarySport) star was very impressive.

Tchouameni’s goal came from an exquisite strike from outside the box.

The Madrid star came close to scoring a second goal for France.

Tchouameni controlled the tempo of the match and was very good at making tackles and challenges.

During his time on the pitch, the former AS Monaco star took three shots, played two key passes, had a pass accuracy of 96.2%, took 126 touches, made four tackles and two interceptions, and put in one cross.

Tchouameni’s performance was once again a reminder of why Liverpool were so keen on signing the Madrid star in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool tried to sign Tchouameni

In June, Defensa Central reported that Madrid had turned down an offer of €60 million (£51.51 million) from Liverpool for the youngster.

Chelsea also reportedly tried to sign Tchouameni, but the Frenchman stayed at Madrid.

Tchouameni has made four appearances in La Liga for Madrid so far this season.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are aiming to win the La Liga title as well as the UEFA Champions League this season.
