Leeds United loanee Brenden Aaronson is enduring a torrid time at Union Berlin and things have just been thrown up in the air even further this week – with Union deciding to sack manager Urs Fischer.
Aaronson, 23, went on loan to Union after a dismal first season at Elland Road. The exciting, creative, game-changing American that starred for Salzburg was nowhere to be seen at Leeds. One goal, in 40.
One of eight senior players to leave Leeds on loan using the relegation loan clause, Aaronson decided to chance his arm at Union – where he would be playing Champions League football over the 23-24 term.
On the face of it, an exciting move to a side on an upward curve in the Champions League. Union have been miles off it. Three wins in their first three, followed by 12 losses in a row. Then, a draw with Napoli.
But that mere rest bite against Napoli was followed by a 4-0 loss to Leverkusen. Now, Union announced on Wednesday that they have made the decision to sack manager Fischer. Unsurprising, given the form.
Another blow as Leeds loanee Brenden Aaronson’s boss sacked
More turbulence for Aaronson, who has failed to score or lay on an assist in 14 games for Union since joining the club. No goal involvements, one red card. Aaronson’s confidence has completely evaporated.
Jesse Marsch’s first signing at Elland Road has even admitted that his career is undergoing a downward turn. Now, he will have to try and impress a manager that did not sign him for Union, moving forward.
Hopefully, Aaronson can go and shine under the new manager and finally get himself on the score sheet again – scoring a club goal for the first time since the 3-0 win over Chelsea back in August 2022.
