Angelo Mariano Fabiani, the sporting director of Lazio, met with the agent of Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto recently to talk about a possible transfer to the team.
Calciomercato claims that after Leeds’ original demands were deemed to be too high, a second meeting is scheduled to see if a compromise can be reached.
Gnonto wanted to leave the club after relegation during a difficult summer, and now he’s being linked to a transfer away from Elland Road once more.
Despite being on strike at one point, he was strongly connected to Everton, but a transfer could not be made because the parties could not agree on a valuation for the forward.
Since then, he has rebuilt his reputation under Daniel Farke, but this week, rumors surfaced that he may be returning to Italy, where Lazio and Roma are reportedly both interested to have him play.
According to a report from earlier today, Lazio’s interest was only being expressed, but Calciomercato seems to indicate differently.
There has reportedly been a “summit” in the past few days between the agency of the Leeds player and Fabiani, the sports director of Lazio.
The €25 million that Leeds is currently demanding is “considered too high,” thus that meeting was merely exploratory.
In order to determine whether there is potential to receive a discount on that price, the pertinent parties will “update again” in the coming days.
Given the state of the present squad—Gustav Isaksen is struggling, Mattia Zaccagni and Felipe Anderson are approaching the final year of their contracts in 2024—the Biancoceleste club is looking to the market for new wingers.
It’s thought that Gnonto “may be the right name,” but it looks like Leeds’ demands may cause problems once more.
