Following a stellar start to the season, Celtic midfielder David Turnbull has been tipped by former Arsenal striker John Hartson to make a major move to Leeds United soon.
Turnbull played for Motherwell for three seasons before joining the Scottish giants in August 2020, during Neil Lennon’s tenure, for a reported fee of around £3 million.
The midfielder made an immediate impact at Celtic Park, scoring nine goals in 35 games across all competitions as Celtic lost to Rangers under Steven Gerrard, causing their first league loss in nearly ten years.
But even after Ange Postecoglou took over for the Hoops, Turnbull’s play continued to be impressive, as he equaled his 2020–21 season total of nine goals in one fewer game.
This season, under Brendan Rodgers, the 24-year-old has been superb in front of goal again and has found the net seven times in the Scottish Premiership. Only Kyogo Furuhashi has scored more times for Celtic in all competitions.
In fact, no player has scored more goals in Scotland’s top-flight than Turnbull who is locked as the top scorer with teammate Matt O’Riley and Rangers duo James Tavernier and Abdallah Sima.
Ahead of the winter window, former Celtic frontman Hartson believes Turnbull would suit a club like Leeds United who are pushing for promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Turnbull has been a fantastic player for Leeds United this season, so this would be a fantastic addition. Daniel Farke might not be able to provide the midfield player with the attacking role that he thrives in.
This season, Farke has mostly employed a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Joel Piroe playing as the number “10” and Glen Kamara and Ethan Ampadu as the double pivots. With each player’s season-long performance, the manager won’t want to upend the balance by bringing in more competition just yet.
