JUST NOW :Leeds United defender might sign a permanent deal with a loan team if one condition is met.

The odds of Borussia Monchengladbach making Max Wober’s loan move permanent are dependent on whether Leeds United are promoted to the Premier

League.Wober was loaned to Gladbach in the summer after Elland Road was relegated from the Premier League last season.
The defender joined Leeds in January and signed a contract extension until the summer of 2027.

Borussia Monchengladbach appears to be praying that Leeds United does not earn promotion from the Championship to the Premier League this season.

That follows a story from German publication Rheinische Post, through Sport Witness, claiming that the Bundesliga club’s decision to make Max Wober’s loan move from Elland Road permanent is contingent on the Yorkshire club’s return to the top flight of English football next season.

Wober just joined Leeds in the January transfer window of 2023, joining from Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg at a whopping £11 million.

Wober then went on to make 19 appearances for Leeds in all competitions during the second half of the season.

Despite several good efforts, the 25-year-old was unable to keep the club in the Premier League at the end of that season.

With Wober making an impression for Monchengladbach, it appears that those affiliated with the German club will be hoping Leeds do not return to the Premier League next season.

According to the most recent report, Monchengladbach are already looking into the potential of completing the permanent signing of Wober.

However, the likelihood of that happening appears to be dependent on Leeds’ own form for the remainder of the season.

Monchengladbach are expected to require the Whites, who are led by Monchengladbach’s former manager Daniel Farke, to miss out on promotion in order to secure a long-term agreement for Wober.

Leeds have roughly four years left on his contract, ensuring his future at the club until the conclusion of the 2026/27 season and putting them in a strong position to respond to any bids for him.

Despite losing Wober and a number of other players during the summer transfer window, Leeds have made a strong start to life back in the Championship this season.

The Whites have 19 points from 11 league games this season, leaving them nine points behind the automatic promotion spots.

They play another of Farke’s old clubs, Norwich City, on Saturday afternoon at Carrow Road.

There is some speculation that Wober’s long-term departure from Leeds would be a setback for the club.

In the second half of last season, the Austrian appeared to be one of the club’s more solid defensive alternatives, and he also appears to have impressed in the Bundesliga.

As a result, if he returns at the end of the season, he appears to be a viable alternative for Farke’s side on the pitch.

However, it appears that the circumstances surrounding his leaving did not sit well with a number of Leeds fans, so there may be some at Elland Road who are not too disappointed if he does leave the club on a longer term basis.
