Leeds United finally seals Young goalkeeper loan move

Leeds United academy goalkeeper Darryl Ombang has joined up with local non-league outfit Ossett United on loan. Ombang will make the move to Ossett on an initial one-month loan deal, where he will be looking to pick up valuable experience of playing men’s football.

The Ramicorns currently play in the Northern Premier League Division One East, the eighth tier of English football, and they’ll be hoping the addition of Ombang can help them push up the table and away from the relegation zone. Ombang, who is just 18, has been a part of Michael Skubala’s Under-21s squad this season, but he has made just one league appearance so far, with his only run out coming in the 3-2 loss to Reading last month.

Leeds United forward Joel Piroe has been nominated for the Championship Goal of the Month for September. The Leeds summer signing netted three times in five games over the course of last month as he continued his fast start after sealing a move from Swansea City.

The Dutchman was recognised for the first of his two goals against Millwall last month, when he capped a flowing move that involved Georginio Rutter and Wilfried Gnonto by coolly controlling a pass from the Frenchman and supplying a classy finish past Bartosz Bialkowski in the Lions goal after 15 minutes.

Piroe added a second that afternoon to help Leeds win 3-0 and now has five goals for the season since his move from South Wales, including one the win over Bristol City last time out.

He has watched the remaining five league games the Whites have played from the bench, with the likes of Dani van den Heuvel and Harry Christy getting the nod ahead of him. However, the former England Under-17 international played regularly last season for the Whites, making 16 appearances at U18 level, while also getting a run out for the U21s in the 5-2 win over Derby County on the opening day of last season.

Leeds United’s promotion rivals Birmingham City have made the biggest waves in the Championship over the international break, opting to show manager John Eustace the door in favour of a big-name appointment in Wayne Rooney. The former England skipper is the first hire by the club’s new American owners Shelby Companies Limited.

This is the latest ambitious move from Blues’ new owners, who announced that NFL legend Tom Brady had also invested in the club and taken up the role of chairman of the advisory board back in August. With the West Midlanders sitting just one place and one point behind Leeds United in the table, the Whites will very much see them as one of their rivals for promotion this season.

With this latest hire Shelby Companies Limited are clearly intent on making a splash this season, but the club’s chief executive Garry Cook admitted that similar ambition in the transfer market may not yet be possible.
