JUST NOW : Liverpool £150m Salah replacement Agreed by Spurs for super player over Burnley and Chelsea

The summer transfer window is done and dusted after another hectic Deadline Day did not fall short of the mark. We’ve had plenty of blockbuster signings and enough surprise twists to see us right into January, but there’s still a lot to unpack as the dust settles.

The window may be closed but that doesn’t mean the rumour mill has stopped pumping out delicious stories. After all, we don’t have to wait too long before January is upon us and the chaos starts all over again.

Pundit suggests £150m Salah replacement

One of the biggest stories towards the end of the transfer window was Mohamed Salah’s potential Anfield exit. It was hardly surprising that Saudi Arabia had once again come knocking at Jurgen Klopp’s door, but Al-Ittihad’s relentless hunt for the Egytpian has seriously unsettled the vibe around Liverpool. In fact, this is still an ongoing concern for the Reds, as the Saudi Pro League transfer window will remain open until September 7th, meaning a deal could still be on the cards.

Al-Ittihad dropped a mammoth £150 million bid on Deadline Day for Salah but Liverpool immediately knocked it back. It doesn’t need spelling out that £150 million is a phenomenal offer for a 31-year-old and Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes the Saudi outfit will almost certainly return with even more money.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday, Merson suggested that Liverpool could squeeze as much as £200 million from Al-Ittihad and then target Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka for £150 million in January.

The 3AM Verdict: We recently looked at the Salah dilemma and how much of a headache it could be causing the club, which you can read here. Liverpool’s main issue with offloading Salah is that they don’t have replacement for him right now. and he is without a doubt their most crucial player. However, the money being offered is astronomical and if Al-Ittihad do come back with an even bigger fee, it might be too tempting to turn down. Klopp could splash the whole lot on a straight-up replacement, or he could delegate it between two or three very solid new recruits in different areas come January. For what it’s worth, Saka would be a sensational signing for Liverpool, but it’s hard to see his head turning from Arsenal in the immediate.
