Alexis Mac Allister red card appeal accepted as Liverpool midfielder has ban overturned
Alexis Mac Allister has seen his red card picked up in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth on Saturday overturned.
The Argentina midfielder was given his marching orders midway through the second half of the victory against the Cherries following what was viewed as a dangerous challenge by referee Thomas Bramall on Ryan Christie.
After a check from VAR Paul Tierney, who was reviewing the video footage at Stockley Park, Mac Allister was sent off on his home debut following his £35m switch from Brighton & Hove Albion. It was Liverpool’s first red card for 12 months.
However, after the club lodged an appeal on Monday, the decision has now been overturned by the Football Association, who reviewed the evidence via an independent regulatory commission, leaving Mac Allister in the clear to take part in the game against Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon.
An FA statement read: “An independent Regulatory Commission has removed Alexis Mac Allister’s three-match suspension following a claim of wrongful dismissal. The Liverpool midfielder was sent off for serious foul play during their Premier League game against Bournemouth on Saturday, 19 August.”

Liverpool handed double injury boost before Newcastle United but midfielders absent
Luis Diaz and Trent Alexander-Arnold were both cleared to take part in Liverpool training on Tuesday.
Both players suffered injury scares in Saturday’s 3-1 win against Bournemouth and were brought off as precautionary measures as the Reds won their first home game of the new Premier League season at the weekend.
With Jurgen Klopp’s side set to face Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon, the news of both being fit enough to play a part in an early training session will be viewed as a hugely positive development.
