The NBA free agent market was bolstered on Saturday with Reggie Bullock set to become a potential addition for the Golden State Warriors and a host of championship-contending teams.
First reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Bullock has agreed to a contract buyout with the San Antonio Spurs having previously been traded by the Dallas Mavericks in a deal that landed them Grant Williams.
Reggie Bullock could present as the best available option for the Golden State Warriors to fill their desire for added wing depth.
There won’t be a shortage of potential suitors for the 32-year-old who’s averaged at least 27 minutes in six of his past seven NBA seasons. The Warriors could be one of those potential new homes, particularly after The Athletic’s Anthony Slater reported on their wish for an extra wing.
Golden State are set to have a training camp battle for their vacant 14th roster spot, with the likes of Kendric Davis, Rudy Gay, Javan Johnson, Rodney McGruder and Donovan Williams currently on training camp deals.
Bullock presents as a better alternative to any of the training camp options, having started in 55 games for the Mavericks last season. The 6’6″ wing averaged 7.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 2022-23, shooting 38% on over five three-point attempts per game.
Bullock twice made six three-pointers against the Warriors during the 2022 Western Conference Finals, but crucially went 0-for-7 from deep in Game 3 as Golden State took an unassailable 3-0 lead.
Originally a late first-round pick of the LA Clippers in 2013, Bullock has shot 38.4% from three-point range across his 10-year career. His 3-and-D style could fit the Warrior mould, with his presence as a catch-and-shoot threat potentially proving dangerous alongside Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
Bullock was set to make $10.9 million in 2023-24 before his buyout with the Spurs. There’s been no indication on whether he’ll be willing to take a minimum deal or whether the financial aspect will still play a role in his decision.
