Nottingham Forest managerial staff attacked his girlfriend in a horrifying manner and was jailed for three years on multiple counts of using alcohol and drugs.
Liam Doyle, a dad-of-seven and former Nottingham Forest steward who repeatedly beat his partner in a horrific campaign of abuse, had his contract with the Reds ended months before he was jailed for his crimes. Doyle’s last match as a steward was back in April, it’s understood.
Doyle, 35, was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday (November 24). The court was told his partner lost count of how many times Doyle, of Orange Gardens in The Meadows, attacked her.
During the course of their relationship, Doyle also strangled the victim until she lost consciousness, got on top of her and gouged at her eyes, the court was told.
He tried to control what she wore, who she saw, called her offensive names and made her delete her Facebook account. Doyle pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behaviour, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intentional strangulation.
Benn Robinson, mitigating, said three of his client’s children were living with the defendant and that he has four more. He said his client had previously worked five days a week as a groundworker and then, on Saturdays, as a steward at the City Ground. “It was a relationship which was toxic in both ways.
“Alcohol and drugs feature but that is no excuse whatsoever about his behaviour in this relationship. He has been remanded into custody since May and has used his time inside usefully becoming a peer mentor to younger inmates.”
