JUST NOW: Nottingham Forest transfer news as Steve Cooper comments on summer window interest in Brennan Johnson

Head coach Steve Cooper says he isn’t losing any sleep over the transfer speculation surrounding Nottingham Forest ace Brennan Johnson.

The Wales international has attracted plenty of attention after proving himself in the Premier League last term. Brentford have twice been rebuffed in their attempts to sign him, while Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and West Ham United have also cast admiring glances in his direction

Johnson played a key role in helping the Reds secure survival last season, scoring eight goals in 38 league appearances. And Cooper says it is inevitable his sparkling performances would lead to transfer talk.

“For sure he is a super young player and he has shown last season he can play well in the Premier League, so there is naturally going to be talk and speculation about anybody like Brennan,” he said ahead of Saturday’s trip to Arsenal. “I don’t really think about it too much.

It’s not something we think about too much. But at the same time we know he is a talent and may be a talking point for some clubs.

“I can’t lose any sleep over that. I’m just thinking about what we can do with him for the weekend.”

Johnson is in contention to face the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium. He had been sidelined with an ankle problem in pre-season but has been back training for a couple of weeks and is fit to feature.
