It was a “mistake” for Salernitana to hold off on selling Boulaye Dia during the summer, as Wolves of the Premier League were left out of the running for the erratic Serie A striker.
Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Morgan de Sanctis, the sports director of Salernitana, expressed this opinion regarding a deal that would have seen the Senegal international switch from Italy to England during the last 24 hours of the transfer window.
Boulaye Dia was available for a £19 million permanent transfer, but Wolverhampton Wanderers was unable to secure him on a loan agreement at first.
Even if De Sanctis continues to maintain that Salernitana did not approve of the way Wolves’ proposal was structured, the director regrets not doing more to reach a compromise.
“Dia? It was an error for us not to sell, he moans. However, with 16 goals in the previous campaign, he was our top scorer, just trailing Lautaro Martinez and Victor Osimhen.
On the final day of the transfer window, we had an offer from England. Had Dia been transferred to Wolves, there would have been nothing we could have done to replace him.
“The offer to have him on loan was disrespectful. If we had finished the procedure, what would others have said about me and us?
Pedro’s Molineux outfit is pushed to move.
In just 11 Serie A games this season, Dia has only managed four goals, even though nearly half of those came from the bench as a substitute. De Sanctis’ remarks, however, might motivate Wolves
