Julio Jones is just days into his tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles so it wouldn’t have been shocking to see the Eagles tell the seven-time Pro Bowl receiver to take it easy for this week’s game against Miami.
Relax. Keep learning the offense. Get ready.
But that’s not the route Philly will be taking in the matchup against the high-powered Dolphins because the team announced Saturday it has elevated the 34-year-old from the practice squad. That means Jones will dress and be available to play against Miami, although it’s still likely that he will see a limited workload.
Jones is a high-upside signing for the Birds, but he is coming off of a couple injury plagued seasons.
Wherever they need me to go and be, I’m going to do that at the best of my ability,” he said earlier in the week.
“My mindset is definitely to dominate,” he added. “Don’t get it twisted. I’m here to dominate, whether it is the running game or the passing game, all the way around.”
He played in 10 games with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season, catching 24 passes for 299 yards and two touchdowns.
His best season came in 2015 when he caught 136 passes for 1,871 yards and eight touchdowns for Atlanta.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound receiver was a first-round pick of the Falcons out of Alabama in 2011. He is a seven-time Pro Bowl pick who has caught 903 passes for 13,629 yards and 63 touchdowns across his career.
