Some Nottingham Forest fans say Morgan Gibbs-White should come out of the starting XI – a demand debated on recent Garibaldi Red podcasts
Morgan Gibbs-White is yet to hit the heights for Nottingham Forest this season after his excellent first campaign with the club. He has two assists in six games so far, both against Manchester United, although Taiwo Awoniyi ran almost the length of the pitch to score one of those goals.
That return and has led to some viewers and listerners of the Garibaldi Red podcast to say the former England under-21s international should be dropped or rested ahead of Sunday’s game against Brentford. With that in mind, panelists discussed his form on the last two episodes of our Garibaldi Red podcast. Here is a look at what they said.
Arsher Ali: “Who do you replace him with? It’s the shiny new toy syndrome. Andrey Santos? He’s so young, and if he’s that good why didn’t he stay at Chelsea? He’s an unknown quantity. He could be amazing but with this run of games coming up, it’s probably the period where Gibbs-White gets into form and this conversation is pointless.
“I don’t think the manager will abandon the number 10 type player. I think this next run of games is where he starts firing again. In this team he’s the gold brick in the house we’re building. It’s his team. You have to play him into form. He’s had a stacked summer with the Euros and that will have an effect. He was on the precipice of a really good game against Man City. His touch is slightly off, but this is the same player last year we were thanking the gods for blessing us with.
Matt Davies: “I would play him into form. We’re trying to build a new team here and new partnerships. I don’t think the way to do that is to leave out Gibbs-White. Obviously, if it carries on and he’s not doing anything, or there’s a perception of a lack off effort without the ball, then I would leave him out.
