The Cowboys’ coach Mike McCarthy received a text message declaring his contract’s termination.
The Cowboys’ performance against the Bills on Sunday was lackluster as they were humiliated 31–10—a loss that could have been much worse. Since then, coach Mike McCarthy has come under intense scrutiny due to one straightforward problem that is clearly hurting his team: they are unable to win on the road.
And one of his former standout players is accusing McCarthy directly of the issue.
James Jones, a wide receiver who spent eight seasons playing for McCarthy in Green Bay and once led the league in touchdowns (with 14), stated that McCarthy should take full responsibility for the Cowboys’ dismal 3-4 road record.
According to SI.com, Jones stated, “This is concerning,” during an FS1 interview with Colin Cowherd. “Where is the drive while driving? Not one. Gamers are gone. Dead on the sidelines. That’s them, not prepared to play, right off the bus. That is coaching.
Is the Culprit Mike McCarthy’s Offense?
When the team plays away from home, the 2023 splits from the Cowboys offense—which is, after all, 100% Mike McCarthy’s offense this season—are not attractive. With 20 touchdowns and three interceptions, quarterback Dak Prescott and the passing game have a passer rating of 119.4 at home. But that falls to 84.0 in the seven away games. On the road, he has eight touchdowns and five interceptions.
