Herro told The Ringer, “I have the potential to be the best scorer in the NBA at some point. I’m one of the best young scorers in the league.”
Herro played one season of collegiate basketball at the University of Kentucky, where he averaged 14.0 points per game across 37 games with the team during the 2018–19 season, before the Heat selected him with the No. 13 overall choice in the 2019 NBA Draft.
The 23-year-old guard is coming off what was perhaps his best season as a professional, having spent all four of his NBA seasons with the illustrious Heat team. During the 2022–2023 regular season, he shot 43.9 percent from the field and 37.8 percent from behind the 3-point line while averaging 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game.
Throughout the most of the offseason, Herro’s name was included in trade speculations as the Heat attempted to acquire Damian Lillard, the former point guard of the Portland Trail Blazers. The floor general was traded to the Bucks in September after it became clear that the Trail Blazers had little interest in receiving Herro in exchange for Lillard.
The Bucks, along with the Boston Celtics and their new-look team, are among the teams to beat in the Eastern Conference because of Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo, who are currently perhaps the best combo in the NBA.
