Jürgen Klopp could be about to make the next step in his summer transfer rebuild as he gets a closer look at his squad tomorrow.

Klopp will hope, though, that they aren’t the only new faces arriving this summer, with more work to do in the transfer market.

Speculation continues on who will be Liverpool’s third new signing, with reports in Italy suggesting a surprise move for a Juventus forward. Meanwhile, Roméo Lavia continues to be linked with a move to Anfield, with a new report suggesting Klopp has now had his say on the young Southampton midfielder.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.

Juventus has dropped its asking price for Federico Chiesa as Liverpool continues to be linked with his services, as per La Gazzetta Dello Sport (print edition, via Paisley Gates).

Previous reports in Italy suggested Juventus wanted $66m (£51m/€60m) for the Italy international signature (via Corriere dello Sport), but the latest claim is that it won’t go below $55m (£43m/€50m). Liverpool is said to be preparing to ‘accelerate’ Chiesa’s signing in case Mohamed Salah chooses to leave for Saudi Arabia.

Liverpool.com says: As we’ve pointed out many times, Chiesa’s signing is too big a risk for Liverpool given his injury record. Suggesting he could be a replacement for Salah, who is very rarely injured, just makes even less sense. The Reds have much bigger priorities at the moment, and no one is expecting Salah to be on the move soon, so this looks like a non-starter.

Jürgen Klopp has approved the signing of Roméo Lavia, with Liverpool scouts believing he has the potential to become a special player, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Lavia has long been linked with the Reds, with Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg suggesting yesterday that ‘concrete’ talks are ongoing between the two parties. Southampton is said to want around $64m (£50m/€58m), with no agreement in place yet.

Liverpool.com says: It seems if Liverpool is going to sign another midfielder this summer, it’s likely to be Lavia. It’s still very much up in the air though whether the Reds will sign another player for the engine room. A new defender would seem to be the most likely option next, and we might find out whether another midfielder is needed thereafter
