Former PSV winger, Rene van der Gijp, has suggested that the incoming Liverpool manager, Arne Slot, should look to phase out the club’s most experienced players – Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
Van der Gijp was speaking to Vandaag Inside and believes that both players have reached a stage in their careers where the wear and tear is starting to show.
He added that Klopp’s successor should consider slowly replacing them with younger players so as to maintain the club’s competitiveness.
Sky Sports has reported a deal in principle has been agreed between Feyenoord and Liverpool for Slot to take over from Klopp in the summer.
The Dutchman will inherit a talented squad that includes promising young players, but the former Dutch international has suggested that a transition will be necessary for Liverpool to continue their success.
“I think Slot would do best to slowly replace guys like Salah and Van Dijk. I read that Dortmund would be interested in Van Dijk, instead of Hummels,” Van der Gijp said.
