Kirk Cousins could still end up back with the Minnesota Vikings, but he reportedly wants to see what other offers are out there.
EAGAN, Minnesota Multiple sources state that Kirk Cousins has accepted an offer from the Minnesota Vikings to resign, but he has chosen to explore his options in free agency.
In the NFL, free agency officially begins at 3 p.m. central time. According to ProFootballTalk, if Cousins is not impressed with the other offers, he may resign with Minnesota before the end of the day.
The 35-year-old quarterback is not willing to pass up any money, even if he might be set to sign his last deal. However, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Vikings will not let him leave without a fight.
“To effectively wrest him away from the Vikings, Atlanta would need to step up. And as far as I can tell, I am not sure if that will occur,” Schefter stated on Monday morning’s “Get Up.”
In this year’s free agency class, Cousins is without a doubt the biggest name, and his choice will set off a chain reaction of events.
“The entire league is waiting for the Kirk Cousins’ decision since it actually dictates so much of this free agency,” writes Dianna Russini of the Atletic. Teams who are not even in the quarterback market should be aware.”
In terms of free agency spending money, Minnesota is doing fairly well. According to OverTheCap.com, the club’s salary cap space this offseason is approximately $37 million, which is in the centre of the league.
