Welcome to the Liverpool.com daily Media Digest. From transfers to tweets, it can be hard to keep up with everything going on in the Anfield sphere. Credible, incredible and anything in between: we round it all up in one place here, taking a sideways look at the day’s media goings-on from around the world.
It seems even a categorical statement from Jürgen Klopp could not shake off the rumors. Despite confessing that those inside the club ‘laugh’ at links to Kylian Mbappé, the Liverpool boss continues to see his side credited with an interest in an improbable move.
Moreover, cost concerns have supposedly been allayed by the club’s sponsors, who would ‘contribute’ to the star’s massive salary. However, while PSG would want a loan with an obligation to buy, that is thought to be beyond Liverpool’s financial capabilities.
That arrangement would also make no sense at all, given that Mbappé will be out of contract by the end of his loan. That’s one of a number of things that make this story look highly implausible — we’ll trust Klopp rather than Football Insider on this one.
Premier League transfer raid ‘talks’
Among the many reasons why Mbappé will almost certainly not be joining is the wealth of attacking talent already at Klopp’s disposal. Indeed, there is a real selection dilemma going into the season opener against Chelsea, with Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Darwin Núñez, Luis Díaz and Diogo Jota all jostling for position.
