Greetings to all, and welcome to the Los Angeles Times weekly Lakers Newsletter. This is your free, direct-to-reader opportunity to get a glimpse into my thoughts at any time.
And right now, I’m thinking about a lot of things (click here to subscribe to the paper; it costs just $1 for six months).
Regarding the Lakers, it’s all about trade season, which is one of my favorite periods of the year due to the discussions I get to have with league scouts and executives.
I posed a straightforward question to an NBA executive from a rival team earlier this month before a Lakers game, but it was the kind of question that could really determine how the Lakers handle things come trade deadline time.
We’ve looked at the players the Lakers might want extensively here and on latimes.com (SUBSCRIBE), so it’s likely more crucial to find out what other teams think of the Lakers and their prospects.
I therefore requested that the NBA executive rank the Lakers’ assets. I asked someone else after that. And another individual. Putting together the discussions I’ve had over the past month, I’ve arrived at a consensus of sorts.
