The excitement that surrounded the Los Angeles Lakers for weeks preceded the trade deadline, which was oddly quiet. Instead of making a trade just for the sake of making a trade, Los Angeles chose to hold firm at the deadline. Even though they refrained from making any moves, they actively searched the league for assistance. Even their own player, guard Austin Reaves, attracted a lot of interest for the team.
Reaves has been more than capable despite not making the huge breakthrough that many had anticipated from him this season. It’s excellent news for Los Angeles that he continues to be the third or fourth option on this Lakers team on any given night. Last year, in the postseason, he demonstrated his abilities by stepping up his play at the most crucial moments. If the Lakers can make it into the postseason, they’re hoping for more of the same from Reaves this year. It will be difficult to let him go because the front office sees him as a homegrown success story. The Lakers would only trade him for a superstar-caliber player.
