Cowboys’ Jerry Jones speaks on Dak Prescott contract situation
“Now here’s the thing: moving assets is involved, which makes it sensitive,” he said to Dallas News’ Calvin Watkins. That’s just what happens; Dak isn’t the cause of it. We’re expecting a new contract because it’s sensitive, so that’s all taken into consideration. We are aware that [restructuring] will occur. You can’t have everything. To finish it, some adjustments will be necessary.
In 2024–2025, Prescott will begin the last year of a massive four-year, $160 million contract that is already restricting the Cowboys’ options financially. They may get much-needed relief through a contract restructure, which would enable them to maintain a competitive and strong roster. It’s also likely that some players will need to be released in order to make room for what figures
Jerry Jones claims he has never considered backing out of a significant commitment to Dak Prescott in spite of those setbacks. He declared on Tuesday, “I’ve never thought that we wouldn’t be making a contract.” It seems like the most appropriate way for me to put it. From my perspective, the question of whether or not to proceed has never been raised here.
If Dallas finally takes home a historic postseason victory this century, Jones will likely be even more eager to sign Prescott to a new deal. A trip to play the Buffalo Bills will be a beneficial warm-up before that journey formally commences.
